Revisiting 1984: Memory Hole

A Memory Hole is any mechanism that permanently destroys information in order to rewrite history and control citizens.

Created by Oceania's ruling English Socialist (Ingsoc) Party, Newspeak is a controlled language which changed how words and syntax are remade so that only orthodox thoughts may be expressed. It also made it harder for citizens to interpret or understand information from the past.
