Library Policies: Borrowing

Students

Borrowing Privileges:
  • Your library card number is 279451 followed by your student ID number -- including the zeros.
  • MWCC books check out for 28 days.
  • Students can check out up to 50 items.
  • The loan period for Reserve items is determined by the instructor.
Reserve Items:

Instructors add items (books articles, videos, etc.) to Reserve for their students. These items are located at the Circulation Desk and may be checked out. Loan periods are determined by the instructor. Reserve items are organized by course number and instructor’s name.

Fines:
  • MWCC items accrue late fees of 5¢ per day, up to a maximum of $2.00 per item.
  • Reserve items and videos accrue fines at a rate of 25¢ per day, up to a maximum of $2.00 per item.
  • Fines in excess of $50 will suspend borrowing privileges. 
  • Items overdue for 28 days will result in a hold being placed on the student's record.
  • Students are responsible for the cost of a lost or damaged item.
Holds and Recalls:

If an item is currently checked out by another patron, a hold may be placed on the item.

If an item that you have checked out is required by another user, a notice of recall will be initiated. Failure to return a recall item within 7 days of the recall date will result in a hold on the student's record.

Faculty & Staff

Borrowing Privileges:
  • Contact the Circulation Desk at 978-630-9125.
  • MWCC books are checked out for the duration of a semester.
  • Faculty and staff can check out up to 50 items.
  • Print journals can not be checked out.
Reserve Items:

Instructors can add items (books articles, videos, etc.) to Reserve for their students. These items are located at the Circulation Desk and may be checked out. Loan periods are determined by the instructor. Reserve items are organized by course number and instructor’s name.

Fines:
  • Faculty and staff do not accrue fines for MWCC items.
  • Faculty and staff are held responsible for lost or damaged items.

If an item is currently checked out by another patron, a hold may be placed on the item.

If an item that you have checked out is required by another user, a notice of recall will be initiated.

Emeriti Policy:

Faculty members and administrators who are granted emeritus status have full faculty Library privileges. Please contact the Library for more information.

Community Users

Borrowing Privileges:
  • A valid picture ID is required for a CWMARS library card. Library users must be 16 years of age or older.
  • MWCC book check out for 28 days.
  • Library users can check out up to 10 items.
Fines:
  • Overdue MWCC items accrue late fees at 10¢ per day, up to a maximum of $3.00 per item.
  • MWCC library materials that are overdue for 28 days will be billed for a replacement cost.
  • Library users are held responsible for lost or damaged items.
Holds and Recalls:

If an item is currently checked out by another patron, a hold may be placed on the item.

If an item that you have checked out is required by another user, a notice of recall will be initiated. Failure to return a recall item within 7 days of the recall date will result in a hold on the student's record.
