MWCC Learning Commons Style Guide

A guide to help us create consistently styled webpages on our website.

Introduction

This guide was created to help us create consistent webpages across our website. The guidelines are user-focused, with the purpose of attempting to make our website easier for people to navigate. If you have suggestions to improve our guidelines or if you have questions about how to do anything, please email Rebecca Schmidt (Electronic Resources, Instruction & Research Librarian) at rschmidt1@mwcc.mass.edu.

Homepage Guidelines

All webpage homepages should:

  • Have an "Introduction" for the first top box, with a short description of the LibGuide's purpose.

  • Have a mapped "Need Help?" (for the library) or "Learning Success Center" contact box in the left column, below the side navigation menu. See "Content Guidelines" for more information about mapping content.

  • Try to follow the 5-5-5 rule, when possible. 5 Side Menu topics, with 5 boxes in each subject maximum, each with 5 content items.

What Other Places Are Doing

Inspiration was drawn from other libraries and organizations based on best practices for web design, usability and accessibility. See links below.
